Safe blogs becoming a part of school: Teachers suggest topic; kids open up online.

This article is about kids using the blog in a classroom. We have talked about kids using blogs in a classroom setting and this is the first article I have come across that discusses that. By the teachers giving the students a topic they can expand their knowledge by seeing what other students are saying about that same topic.

Egg hunt helps teach technology

This article is about a school doing an egg hunt and using GPS to locate the eggs. According to Ryan Miller, the instrunctional technology coordinator for the Orange County Schools district. GPS works by sending a signal to three satellites, which then determine the latitude and longitude coordinates according to the time it takes for the signal to travel back, it's accurate to about 12 to 20 feet. The first and fifth grade students of the school got to use the GPS systems to locate the eggs then answer a question about spring.

I thought that this article was really interesting. It was very short but still I would never have thought to use a GPS that way. I think that the teachers were very smart to team up the younger and older kids and let them have at finding the eggs.

Movie Maker

Last week we started to talk about the movie maker project. Dr. Baylen said that we could do anything that we wanted. He also said that we would get extra credit if we made him laugh or cry. That got me started to think. The story that would be the easiest and the most emotional for me to write and create is the story of my niece and nephew. The story of their life is one important detail in my life that has been a constant light since the day my niece was born. I have always lived in about twenty minutes away from them until recently. As I have said before I just moved down to school, so I am now five hours away from them. I hate to say that I miss them more than my sister but I talk to my sister every day. My niece does not like to talk on the phone and my nephew is only two so he is just learning to talk. Anyway, I want to tell their story from their point of view. I want to have my niece tell the story until my nephew was born and have him take over the story, read by myself instead of my nephew.

All I want for Christmas is a cyber-tronic chalkboard.

This article is about schools with interactive chalkboards called "smart boards". It is set in Minnesota. Several schools now have smart boards and that many districts now plan to have a smart board in all classrooms.A smart board combines a computer, a projector and a white board into a piece of technology that students and teachers can manipulate with the touch of a finger. And the color, movement, sound and participation all come without messy chalk, stinky dry-erase markers and copies of transparencies.

As I was looking for articles to write about, I found this really interesting article about smart boards. We were discussing the smart board technology in one of my other classes so I was already interested in it. I was very surprised to see this article and pleased that I already knew a little about what they were talking about. It would be nice to teach in a class room that was equipped with the latest technologies such as a smart board.

The Listening Game

We had to do a Listening game project in class this week. I really had fun doing this project not only going through my pictures that showed what was happening with my story to the actual recording of the story sections. This project made me remember what it was like to do and complete that story at that point in my life. I was only 10 in that story. It was good to remember what and where I learned all of my general knowledge about how to repair things around the house. We had to do 9 squares that contained a picture and a hyperlink over the sound byte. I actually chose to do the 12 square mosaic and get the extra credit he was offering.

Welcome Again.

Welcome all to my second blog ever. To some of you, you have never met me. I just turned 21 a few months ago! I also just moved down to school from the northeast coast to southwest coast. I am really missing my family except for my sister, who goes to school at FGCU also. I am required to use this blog in one of my class, Intro to Computers in Education. I plan to use this blog as a way to discuss new and exciting technology in the classroom. We will be using this blog to post projects and other interesting things we talk about in class.
